Largest programs by FY2025 obligations

Many of the largest programs are formula or entitlement programs paid to states (for example Medicaid). Competitive grant programs are usually much smaller — use programs with open opportunities to focus on what you can apply for.

Coming next: award-level history and recipients

We are connecting USAspending.gov award records so you can search recipients, see who received funding under each program and state, and jump from a past award to the programs open today. Historical awards will always be labeled as history — never as approval odds.

Frequently asked questions

What does “obligations” mean?

An obligation is a binding federal commitment to spend money — for example, when an agency signs a grant award. Obligation totals show how much a program committed in a fiscal year; they are not the same as the amount paid out.

Can historical awards tell me my chance of being funded?

No. Award totals and counts show where money went, but approval rates require knowing how many applications were submitted, which is rarely published. GrantsJunction never calculates approval odds from award data.

Where can I see individual awards and recipients?

Award-level and recipient data from USAspending.gov is being added to GrantsJunction. Until then, USAspending.gov's own search shows individual federal assistance awards by program, recipient and location.
