The Geothermal program’s goal is to ensure that local governments directly benefit from the revenue generated by geothermal leases—such as bonuses, rents, and royalties—so they can address community needs related to natural resource development. Accordingly, the U.S. Federal Government shares 50 percent of mineral leasing revenue with the State, and 25 percent with the county.
