How it makes and monitors grants (Schedule I, Part IV)
Every applicant provides a budget for their project that is evaluated by the AABB Foundation Inc (Foundation) scientific research grants review committee. If funded, an awardee who wants to change their budget allocation needs to submit a change request form justifying the need. Typically, after consultation with the chair of the scientific research grants review committee, the AABB Foundation Director sends an approval (or non-approval) letter. The AABB Foundation does not require a financial report at the end of the grant period, however some institutions provide them, and they are filed along with the grant recipient's research final report. Grant recipients sign an agreement before any funds are released to their institutions. As part of this agreement, they agree to return any unused funds. Every grant recipient provides a final report at the end of their funding period. Two-year grant recipients also provide an interim report after the completion of their first year. Upon completion of the grant period, recipients are requested to submit their research findings to academic journals for publication and to present their results at a foundation forum. The foundation maintains electronic records related to all grants, including applications, ethics approvals, recipient agreements, interim and final reports, and official correspondence with recipients and their institutions. The Foundation issues funds directly to award or honorarium recipients for use at their discretion.
